About Nonprofit Tools

Simple, free calculators for the numbers side of nonprofit work.

Nonprofit Tools exists because the math of running a nonprofit — event budgets, gift tables, retention rates, overhead ratios — is well understood, yet most of it lives in consultants’ slide decks and scattered blog posts. We turned the standard formulas into ten free calculators anyone can use in a minute.

Where the numbers come from

Our benchmarks come from published, citable sources: Charity Navigator and BBB Wise Giving Alliance standards for expense ratios, Independent Sector and the Do Good Institute’s annual value of a volunteer hour, Fundraising Effectiveness Project retention averages, and the gift-range-chart conventions used across capital campaign practice. We review the numbers periodically and update the tools when the sources update.

How the site stays free

The site is supported by advertising. The calculators themselves run entirely in your browser — nothing you type into any tool is uploaded, stored or sold.

Not professional advice

These are planning tools. They don’t replace your accountant, auditor, attorney or a fundraising counsel’s feasibility study — especially for Form 990 reporting, grant compliance or anything with legal consequences.

Have an idea for a tool we should build, or a number you think is out of date? Tell us — corrections are genuinely welcome.
